Country specific advices

Mauritius uses a different power outlet system to most of Europe, so just to be on the safe side, we recommend packing a travel adapter. The official currency in Mauritius is the Mauritian Rupee (MUR).

Entry requirements and Visa

Mauritius requires that the institution (African Leadership College) in which a student is enrolled, applies to the Passport and Immigration Office (PIO) in Mauritius for the visa on the student's behalf. The application process takes 2-3 weeks once the documents have arrived at the PIO. Once the application has been approved, the PIO issues a permit for provisional entry, valid for three months which permits students to travel to Mauritius.

To apply for a Visa, you need to provide a sponsorship (e.g. family or friends) including signed and stamped bank statements in English of the last 6 months, prior to the application - an official translation might be needed. This is necessary to proof, that your aproximate expenses in Mauritius can be covered. In addition, students need to get medical certificates in English to proof they don´t suffer from Hepatitis B, HIV or tuberculosis (including X-Ray results), as well as an official police record with an apostille showing no criminal background. All documents must be handed it as originals - no copies will be accepted be the PIO - and be sent via Express Courier as per instructions. Students are advised to start the visa process as early as possible, as late applications can not be considered.

Once in Mauritius, students will have to undergo compulsory medical checks, (e.g. stool and urine samples, chest x-ray and blood samples), to ensure that the student is not suffering from any contagious diseases, also students are required to bring along the vaccination certificate.
