Travel
One of the benefits you will enjoy at SIT as an international student is a complimentary airport pickup. An SIT representative will meet you at the local airport to take you to your accommodation. Once you have booked your flights, simply let SIT know when you will be arriving (at leasta few days in advance).
Accommodation
Apart from applying for SIT Apartments, students have the opportunity of Home Stay or to look for a private accommodation. For further details see also here. You may stay in the dorms during the first weeks and leave the dorms after you have found a shared flat in Invercargill if you prefer private accommodation. An extra fee for bed linen hire will be charged.
Health Insurance
Medical and travel insurance are compulsory for international students studying in New Zealand. Students have to take out an insurance required by SIT that costs approx. 300 NZD per semester.
Specifics
SIT's on-campus facilities include a student gym, bookshop, cafe, and support services such as a health nurse, counsellor, chaplain, learning assistance centre, disability liaison and Pacific Island liaison.
Academic Matters
Film- and TV students as well as Design students need to hand in a portfolio as part of their application. A TOEFL-Score of 61 (writing: 20) is needed to participate in the academic programme.
There is a mid-semester break and not all programmes have midterm exams. Please note that most courses require students to write assessments throughout the term.
Non-Academic Programme
Students with a TOEFL Score 0-60 will be given the opportunity to attend the non-academic programme (17 weeks language course including two exams at SIT, recognized as "Intercultural Communication" + Macromedia Online Courses). Please note that you attend the English course during the regular semester abroad times at SIT with your fellow students from the academic programme whereas the online modules only start in October at the beginning of Macromedia University's winter term.
