Accommodation
On-Campus Housing
Macromedia students have the opportunity to live on-campus in a hall of residence. There are two types of accommodation, single and double rooms in the "Anacapa Village" residential complex. The price of a room depends on the number of meals you book and the size of the room. The university´s aim is to enable students to concentrate as much as possible on their studies. The rooms are furnished, but some accessories still need to be purchased (e.g. bed linen, crockery and cutlery). Please make sure to read all the terms and conditions of the licence agreement carefully. Prices can be found under "Rates" here.
Please set up an online account and apply as early as possible, but no later than mid-April. A meal plan is obligatory. A meal plan is where you pay for a certain number of meals in advance. When and how exactly you use the food package is up to you but we recommend you purchase either the middle or smallest meal plans as you might be scrambling at the end of the semester to use up the money which is not refundable. Please note that alcohol is strictly banned in student residences. Do not take the risk of being caught with alcohol in your room, this can result to your expulsion from the university and even an expulsion from the United States!
Off-Campus Housing
The university has an agreement with the Residence Inn by Marriott, a long-term residential hotel in Camarillo. Macromedia students can stay at discounted rates in single rooms or double rooms. A shuttle bus will take you directly to CSUCI.
Students from the past years stayed at Jeff MacSwan's appartments directly at the beach. For further information contact macswan@umd.edu, or see the listing and photos here. Reserve early in case you are interested in staying here!
Health insurance
Proof
of health insurance is one of the conditions for enrolment at CSUCI.
The university has arranged mandatory health coverage with JCB Insurance Solutions.
The cost runs between $500 - $800, depending on your age and insurance
period. You will receive an email by CSUCI's international office
informing you about the details. Please check which services the
insurance includes and take out an additional insurance in case you
would like to have any special coverage (e.g. dental costs)!
Proof
of JCB insurance must be submitted by the end of May to the office in
Camarillo - no other international health insurance is accepted.
Specifics
If you are interested in going to Camarillo bear in mind the money you have to bring up, as you not only have to deliver a Bank Confirmation of 14.500 US-Dollar on your/your sponsor's account but also to purchase textbooks for most of the classes (some of them could cost about 150 USD per textbook). Since public buses and trains in the US do not run as often as in Germany, especially outside the bigger cities, it is recommended to rent or buy a car (together with fellow students) in order to get around easier. Bear in mind that you might need an International Driving License and that the purchase/rent of a vehicle means additional costs. Please note that you might have different schedules from your fellow students and therefore cannot rely on driving to school with your roommates together.
An application fee of 250 USD is due.
Student Account: Upon your acceptance by CSUCI, you will receive a CSUCI Student Account by email. This account includes, amongst other things, a list of the tuition fees you are supposed to pay. Please ignore this request of payment! Do NOT make any payments! The International Programs office is your first point of contact for all matters relating to registration and provides student ID cards and official certificates for visa applications, etc. In addition to the student ID, there is also the DolphinOne campus ID card, which serves as a library card, printer card and for paying in dining establishments on campus. Students will be required to pay an additional 15.00 USD for the student identification card.
For questions about internships, employment and career opportunities available for students, please contact their local Career Development Services. On the campus intranet, students have access to various job offers. Besides this, job fairs are organized and guidance is provided for writing résumés and cover letters. For questions about technical equipment, contact Academic & Information Technology. The Center for International Programs office has a wide range of offerings.
Things to do in the area, mostly in the neighbouring cities of Camarillo and Oxnard, are collected in a database and made available to students.
